Tango EXTRAVAGANZA

**Special Fundraising Studio Tango**
Tango is not a dance learned in haste. It is uncovered slowly, like memory, in the spaces between steps and the silences between phrases. Gesture by gesture, spiral by spiral, it gathers form until the body itself becomes an instrument of time.
These workshops guide us through that unfolding, from the first grounding of the feet to the subtle alchemy of movement and music.

  • SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 28TH

  • 4 WORKSHOPS

  • ALL LEVELS WELCOME

Tango Fiesta

"A good dancer is one who listens to the music…We dance the music not the steps. You see, we are painters. We paint the music with our feet.”

Beginners Bootcamp

Perfecting the Walk

We begin with the architecture of tango: the grounded walk, the quiet division of weight, the disassociation of torso and hips, and the intimacy of the embrace.Through deliberate and unhurried practice, stability emerges, fluidity awakens, and the body learns to speak a new language.

Time: 12:00pm

Duration: 60min

2

Feldenkrais

Flexibility in Turning.
Here we discover that pivots do not live only in the feet but in the body’s hidden spirals. Through soft, mindful movement, the torso finds its natural revolution, releasing tension into ease, allowing the giro to unfold with elegance rather than effort.

TIME: 1:00pm

Duration: 60min

--------

lunch break

2:00pm – 3:00pm

Turning Like a Sta

For leaders and followers
We open into Turning Like a Star, a deep immersion in the Mingo Pugliese system. The dance expands: half-turns to doubles revolutions, enrosques that coil like constellations, planeos that sweep like wind, adornos that glitter and vanish. Structure provides the vessel, imagination the fire, and the dancer learns to move with both gravity and brilliance.

TIME: 3:00pm

Duration: 60min

4

Sacada Sensation

Through the Core Elements

There is a moment in tango where one body displaces another, not by force but by the quiet insistence of intention. This is the sacada: In this workshop we will explore how presence alters space, how balance becomes dialogue, how the absence of a step can speak as loudly as its execution. We will leave with a deeper sense of how tango is shaped less by steps than by the silences between them.

TIME: 4:00pm

Duration: 60min

About Feldenkrais

The Feldenkrais Method, developed by Moshe Feldenkrais, is a therapeutic approach that uses gentle, mindful movements based on principles from physics, biomechanics, psychology, motor development, and martial arts.

This method emphasizes self-education to improve how the body moves and functions. By enhancing body awareness and attention, it stimulates neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to create new neural pathways for optimal movement and function. Neuroplasticity underlies all learning and contributes to better balance, breathing, coordination, flexibility, cognition, and outlook. This capacity for renewal and growth in the brain, although most pronounced in children, continues in adults and can be activated through precise, mindful movements.

For dancers, the Feldenkrais Method offers a unique way to refine their movement. By slowing down and focusing on sensations and slow movements, dancers engage different parts of their brain and identify unconscious habits of overexertion that may hinder their performance. This mindful approach allows dancers to better sense their skeletal structure and improve their self-image mapping in the brain, leading to more efficient and expressive use of their bodies. By learning to rely on their skeletal architecture for support, dancers free their muscles to perform according to the demands of their choreography, enhancing their overall movement quality and artistic expression.
